More about my first steps in SL

Posted by andrearookie on November 22, 2008

Well, too many things on my mind … mixed Trying to do the homework, I know, I know, I’m late, yes, it’s past the deadline, blame on me, and only me … blush

On my previous post I forgot to mention many things, for example technical issues. At first it was a bit frustrating due to the technical requirements. I could only work on my laptop, and not on my PC due to a graphic card problem. angry Then, it was quite difficult to configure the audio setting, I don’t know why it kept changing all the time.thoughtful Then, lagging was an issue too, but I learned to be more patient … smile

If you had a look at the avatar I chose, and you compared it to the one I have now, you could say I have been working on it a lot. Well, the change was not because I didn’t like the first one, but becuase I felt it wasn’t me. We looked so different … surprise Anyway, I guess I will keep on changing it, and that’s the nice part of it, you can’t really change much of your appearance in RL, can you? lol big grin.

As regards Orientation Island, as I mentioned in my previous post, it was a great place for me. I met people from different parts of the world and we helped one another. Besides, there were signs everywhere so I didn’t feel l was lost in virtual space. I communicated with other avatars by means of text chat, but nobody knew hot to voice chat. That was a bit disappointing, but I believed I would soon learn how to. I guess that, because I knew how to text chat (Messenger) and how to surf the Net, I felt confident enough to start my journey in this virtual world.

OK, that’s it. I’m done. Better late than never, ok? smile Comments welcome.

    Hi Andrea,

I totally understand with being late. We are heading into the end of the semester here and I am finding myself overwhelmed. Trying to get everything graded and ready for the last class coming up this week. UGHH!!!

Two weeks ago, I took my class online to Second Life. It was their first time on Second Life. Some had fun; some were frustrated; all stumbled through it all. I really expected it to be easier than it was. Several did mention though that they did learn a lot and it was cool to have a guest speaker from Florida speak to my class.

I wish I would have had them read some of these posts first. Then they probably would not have felt so inadequate as they stumble around in their new avatars. :)
